Instant Gout Pain Relief With Baking Soda

Looking for instant gout pain relief? Then you've come to the right place. Here, you'll discover how baking soda can bring almost immediate relief from gout pain without the need for drugs with their well-known side effects.

Baking soda can bring you more or less instant gout pain relief. And who would have suspected that something that many of us have lying in a kitchen cupboard could be such a potent weapon in the fight to get fast gout pain relief?

Baking Tools

Not only can it act alone as an effective natural remedy for gout, but, baking soda can also help the effectiveness of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that you doctor usually prescribes to relieve the pain of your gout symptoms.

But even without drugs you can get almost instant, certainly fast, gout pain relief using baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) because of its several benefits such as:-

- an increase in body fluids that help your kidneys to flush uric acid out of your system
- improved uric acid solubility for easier excretion from the body
- dissolution of uric acid crystals to help reduce the pain

You need to add half of a teaspoon of baking soda to 8 ounces of water in a large glass. Drink a glass immediately before going to bed, and, first thing on getting up. Drink a further glass every 2 to 4 hours between meals. If need be, follow this routine daily until your symptoms disappear.

Be careful not to take more than 4 teaspoons of baking soda in any 24 hour period. And, because baking soda is very high in sodium you need to go on to a very low sodium diet, or better still, cut-out salt from your diet altogether.

Also, if you suffer from high blood pressure -- hypertension -- talk to your doctor before using this remedy. It is a good idea to talk to your doctor about this treatment in any case.

Many gout sufferers have experienced very fast gout pain relief with this method. But, there are a number of other things you have to consider in terms of getting rid of your gout. For example, your weight, diet, lifestyle, family history, etc.

And if you continue to suffer frequently recurring gout, there is a danger of permanent joint damage and kidney problems over time. Plus, of course, once having suffered a gout attack, you're now much more likely to have more.

Cake Baking Tips - Preparing Your Oven

One of the keys to baking a quality cake is having a properly prepped oven. Even the best tasting cake batter can be ruined by an over that is set incorrectly. The following simple steps can help you bake a delicious cake to perfection.

Preheat. Allow plenty of time for your oven to heat before starting to bake your cake. Generally 10-15 minutes is enough time for an oven to reach baking temperature. Follow the recommended temperature listed for your specific recipe.

Baking Tools

Double Check the Temperature. An oven may be heated to a different temperature than what the setting indicates and sometimes be off by as much as 75 degrees F. Buy an oven thermometer and check it prior to using the oven to make sure that it has reached the proper temperature.

Adjust Oven Rack. Position your oven rack as close to the center of the oven as possible, and place the baking pan in the center of the rack to help ensure even baking throughout the cake.

Use a Shiny Baking Pan. Metal pans reflect heat and so are best for oven baking. This prevents the cake from baking unevenly, which could lead to burned edges and an underdone center. If you decide to use glass instead, decrease the recommended baking temperature by 25 degrees F.

Check Before Removing. Check to see if your cake is done before taking it out of the oven. Insert a wooden toothpick (a piece of raw spaghetti works well too) into the center of the cake and make sure it comes out clean. Another indicator that your cake is done is that the sides of the cake should have shrunk away from the sides of the baking pan.

Enjoy!

Following these oven preparation tips consistently can help ensure that your cakes bake thoroughly and evenly every time, saving you from frustrating failed baking attempts and wasted time and money. For more useful baking tips, visit the extensive cooking website CD Kitchen here.

How to Make Dark Colored Icing - Making Red, Black, and Dark Blue

Making dark colored icing can be a little tricky. If you've tried, you've probably ran into the same problems most do.

The most common problem is that the color is simply not dark enough. Have you ever tried to make red, but it only looks pink? Then, to try to make it darker you add more and more food color. Makes sense right? Next thing you know the consistency of your icing has changed. So you give it a little taste and yuck! It now tastes bitter and disgusting. Does this sound familiar?

Baking Tools

Are you frustrated yet? I am worn out just talking about it. Well, there is an easier way to make dark colored icing!

Let's start with making red.

How to make Red

What you will need:

-red paste or gel concentrated food color
-red powder food color
-toothpick

The first thing we want to do is make our frosting a nice pink color. To do this use the red paste or gel coloring. Dip a clean toothpick into the color, or just squeeze a small amount if using gel in a tube or bottle. Now, mix in the color.

The goal is to get a nice medium (not too light, not too dark) shade of pink. Just add the color a little at a time and mix until you reach a nice medium shade of pink.

Next, we are going to use the red powder color. Sprinkle the red powder into your frosting a little at a time and mix it in. You will notice it getting darker. Add the powder color until the icing starts to look red. Set it on the counter and walk away for about 10 minutes. When you come back, it will have darkened to a nice shade of red.

How to make Black

What you will need:

-black paste or gel concentrated food coloring
-black powder color
-toothpick

There are two easy ways to make black.

The first is using chocolate frosting. Simply add your black paste or gel food coloring to the chocolate. Since it is already dark, it will not take much color to make it black.

Not everyone likes or wants to use chocolate though. The second method uses white or buttercream frosting to make black. It is exactly the same as making the red.

You want to first make your icing a nice shade of gray. Using the black paste or gel food coloring, mix in small amounts of color until you reach a medium shade of gray. Dip a clean toothpick into the color, or squeeze out a small amount if using gel in a tube or bottle.

Next, add the black powder color a few sprinkles at a time and mix it in until it starts to look black. Walk away for about 10 minutes and it will be dark black when you return.

How to make Dark Blue

What you will need:

-royal blue paste or gel concentrated food coloring
-blue powder color
-toothpick

When making dark blue it is best to start with royal blue paste or gel as your base. There are several shades of blue available, but royal blue produces the best results.

Dip your toothpick in the food color, or squeeze a small amount from the tube or bottle if using gel. Mix it in. Add color until you reach a nice "true" blue color. True blue to me is like the blue on the American flag, a nice medium shade of blue.

Now, sprinkle the powder color in a little at a time and mix it in until the icing starts getting darker. Set it to the side and come back in ten minutes. It will darken as it sits.

If you are trying to make navy blue, add a very small touch of black paste or gel color. When I say very small I mean literally just a touch of it. This will deepen it enough to make it a dark navy blue.

Use the paste/gel food color and powder food color combination to make all of your dark colored icing. It will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Simple No Bake Chocolate Macaroon Recipe

This recipe was a favorite of my sister and I. We loved it when my mom would make these. When we were old enough to cook, the house always smelled like chocolate macaroons. I think we made this recipe about a couple of times a week. They are very easy to make and super yummy to eat! Another thing I like about this recipe is that you don't use a lot of dishes, so clean-up is a breeze as well. These cookies are great if you are in a pinch and need to make something delicious in a hurry. Another great thing is the ingredient list is very short and most things I'm sure you will be able to find in your very own kitchen.

I hope you enjoy making these macaroons as much as I know you will enjoy eating them.

Baking Tools

What you need to make the macaroons:

2 cups granulated sugar

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup milk

6 tbsp cocoa

1/2 cup fine shredded coconut

3 cups oatmeal

1-2 cookie sheets waxed paper

1. Combine the first four ingredients together in a large pot and bring to a boil for about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.

2. Take pot off of stove and add the coconut and oatmeal. Mix until everything is coated.

3. Place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet by heaping tablespoon-fulls. To have these cookies ready quickly, cool in refrigerator, or leave and let cool to room temp.

Enjoy!

Note: You may need to double batch these cookies as they will disappear fast!!!!

5 Healthy Valentine Snacks You Can Make For Your Sweetheart

Valentine's Day doesn't have to be just about roses and boxes of chocolate. You can surprise your sweetheart with some healthy valentine snacks this year that not only good for him or her, but also delicious. Here are five healthy snack ideas that are perfect for Valentine's Day.

Chocolate Dipped Strawberries

Baking Tools

Combine ripe strawberries with dark chocolate for a healthy, yet indulgent Valentine snack. Start with large, ripe strawberries. Melt some dark chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Dip the strawberries halfway into the dark chocolate. Allow the excess chocolate to drip off, and then place them on some wax paper to allow the chocolate to harden.

Heart Shaped Grilled Cheese Sandwich

For these cute grilled cheese sandwiches, layer a piece of low fat cheese between two slices of wheat bread. Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut the sandwich into a heart. Spray a hot pan with a non-stick cooking spray and add the sandwich. Grill it until it is golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted. These sandwiches are a perfect snack on their own, or serve them with a cup of tomato soup for a light lunch.

Cupid's Arrows

This snack also makes an attractive appetizer. Start by washing some grape or cherry tomatoes and cutting some low-fat mozzarella cheese into cubes. Thread them on some kabob sticks, alternating the tomatoes and the cheese. Lay the "arrows" on a platter and drizzle with a little bit of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar to finish off. Even cupid could not resist this Mediterranean inspired snack.

Valentine's Day Smoothie

This very-berry and pink smoothie makes a great midday snack or even a filling breakfast. Start by adding some low-fat strawberry to your blender. Toss in some frozen berries (we like strawberries) and a frozen banana if you'd like. Add a little orange juice and blend on high until well mixed. Pour the smoothie into tall glasses and top with a little low-calorie whipped topping, a strawberry and a Hershey's kiss.

Jello Hearts

These jello hearts are always a favorite with the kids. Prepare a package of strawberry yellow according to package directions. If you'd like, you can fold in a few finely chopped strawberries at the end. Pour the jello mixture into a baking dish and allow it to harden. Use heart shaped cookie cutters to cut hearts out of the red yellow mixture. Top each heart with half a strawberry (cut lengthwise).

Quick And Easy Way To Home Package Cookies With These 8 Yummy Creative Ideas

You've spent the time and effort to bake your delicious homemade cookie gifts, now it's time to package them!

Don't spoil all your hard work with boring cookie boxes and packaging ideas.

Baking Tools

You want cookie gifts that say "Yummy!" - Perception is everything!

First impressions are truly important. So it's unavoidable that you make a little effort to package your home-baked treats.

But where do you start? Here it is...

Theme:

Think about what the theme is for your cookie gift packages. For example, it is a birthday gift or for Christmas holiday giving? Perhaps it's for your Valentine? Use the theme on your packaging.

Ingredients:

What are the main flavors or the cookie ingredients you used? Apply this element to help enhance the aroma that you may want to portray on your cookie boxes or packages.

Protection:

Are your cookies fragile? Or do they need to be air-tight and stored in the fridge? Consider using for example, zip seal bags, if necessary.

Hygiene:

Always clean any used containers (or even store-bought new boxes) and dry before using.

When decorating your packages, be sure to use food safe items. Eg. Don't use glues where cookies may be in contact. Consider the point that your cookie gift recipient may not always be as careful as you when replacing cookies back into containers. Think from their viewpoint and see whether there is an alternative method for better hygiene.

With that said and done, here are your "8 Yummy Creative Package Ideas":

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 1:

"The Coffee Cup"

You may have seen a similar idea before, using a mug or coffee cup, but this is really a brilliant idea as people associate coffee cups with aroma.

Whether it be coffee or tea, this idea spells: 'Good times with a friend over a cup of coffee/tea and some sweets!'

- Pre-pack about 2 - 4 cookies in cellophane or sealed bag and place inside cup.
- Embellish with a gift tag and fabric ribbon around cellophane. (You can also write a message or recipient name on the mug).

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 2:

"Milk Carton"

This is perfect for butter cookies or packaging cookies for children. Either way, the milk carton makes a great packaging box.

- Wash and dry container before use. Carefully open the top without tearing the cardboard.

- Place cookies inside.

- Seal top with staples or strong sticky-tape. (Do not use glues as they are unhygienic and not re-openable.

- Decorate exterior with wrapping paper or fabric and ribbon.

If you are computer savvy, you could create a milk carton label with recipient name, theme graphics and colors to print and apply to your cookie carton!

Use one litre carton for giving to an entire family or a smaller carton for children or single recipients.

This is a great container for refrigerating your cookies also. Plus, the benefit is that the design of the carton semi-closes on its own with the folding techniques incorporated.

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 3:

"Peanut Butter Bottle"

Great for peanut butter cookies! The theme, feeling and association is already there! And you don't even need to worry about pealing the bottle stickers off. Use it instead to create a quirky cookie packaging.

Use a square piece of fabric almost twice as large as the lid size and cover cookies before closing with the lid to create instant effective packaging.

Create a label digitally and print out for a dynamic gift. You don't have to cover the entire glass or bottle, leave a bit of room so they can take a peek at the yummy cookies you baked.

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 4:

"Butter or Margarine Containers"

Unusual but very effective and fun. What's more, it has a lid and is lightweight for posting your cookies. Just keep in mind that most butter containers aren't air-tight.

You can decorate the exterior by creating your own labels, or sticking appropriate wrapping paper over. I recommend a food style, earthy tones and colors for this method.

Lastly, tie a ribbon around the package like you would a gift box. Large wide ribbons would give you a dazzling package.

Great for milk and butter cookies.

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 5:

"Milo or Food Tins (with lid)"

Tins come in all different sizes and are great for air-tight cookie storing. And you won't have to pre-package your cookies in bags first.

Ideal for cookies that do not need to be refrigerated.

Also makes a great cookie gifting idea for boys or men.

You can even etch in writing or graphics onto the tin if you have the proper tools and use correct safety precautions.

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 6:

"Candy or Chocolate Boxes"

Candies and cookies go hand in hand! These are little treats that the whole world love!

- Place your cookies lying flat into the box. You may need to take out the pre-made mould shapes used and use cardboard dividers to separate your cookies.
- Simply tie with ribbon and gift tag the package!

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 7:

"Cocktail or Martini Glass"

Great for alcohol-based cookies like rum balls during Christmas season!

- Place one cookie or two in cellophane, seal and place inside glass.
- Seal glass with clear food wrapping. Add ribbon and gift tag on glass stalk.

HOME-BAKED COOKIE PACKAGING IDEA 8:

"Tea Box"

Use small aroma infusion tea packaging boxes - usually ones that have only 10 tea-bags in each box. You can pack 2 to 3 cookies in each box and give more than one tea box for fun.

- Seal cookies with cellophane or food bag first and place inside decorated tea boxes.

Why not leave one tea bag in front of your cookies? It's a perfect invitation to a relaxing snack with a drink.

If you do not have any of these containers handy, you can easily buy them and transfer contents to other containers. Just make sure that it's well washed and that most of the original scents are gone (except in the case such as the peanut butter bottles).

Not only are these 8 Yummy Ideas creative and fun, they also bring out the aroma of your delicious homemade cookies.

Start using these mouth-watering cookie packaging ideas. It's a sure way that your cookies will be eaten instantly!

Homemade Acne Treatments - Baking Soda Will Cure Your Acne

Homemade acne treatments are plentiful but those that use baking soda are among the best. Acne home remedies that use baking soda are extremely effective and best of all No Side Effects!

Another big advantage is that it's so doggone cheap!

Baking Tools

I don't think you could ask more from homemade acne treatments than being extremely effective, no side effects and cheap.

If you've tried every over the counter treatment there is without results you owe it to yourself to give baking soda a try.

Homemade Acne Treatments

Before you apply baking soda you need to thoroughly wash your face with a mild natural soap. Soap without strong chemicals or perfume.

Do not scrub your face or rub very hard. Hard scrubbing will irritate your skin before applying the baking soda. Lightly pat your face dry with a towel.

Place a couple of tablespoons of baking soda in a small bowl and add enough water to form a paste. You don't want a paste that is to soupy or to thick. It should be just thick enough to stick to your face.

Now you're ready to apply it. Place some of the paste to the affected area and gently massage in a circular motion for about 10 to 15 seconds.

If your skin is not sensitive you can then leave it on until it dries. If you do have sensitive skin it's best to remove it after the 15 seconds. Some experimenting will let you know what to do that's best for you.

Now rinse your face off thoroughly with warm water. Pat your face dry with an absorbent towel.

You might notice a little stinging sensation while the baking soda is on your face. You might also have some slight redness after rinsing but after a few minutes that should go away and allow your skin to glow.

You can also expect sensitivity to sunlight. So the baking soda for acne treatment is best as a nighttime routine.

It's also a good idea to apply a moisturizer suitable for you skin type and sleep with it on overnight and wash it off next morning.

More Homemade Acne Treatments

You should start seeing some results from your baking soda acne treatment right away but it might take 7 to 10 days of treatment.

After a month you should see a remarkable improvement.

I would like to say however, that we are all different. There are also many reasons for acne. So the possibility exists that this might be the best acne treatment for you.

There are many effective home remedies for acne and if you don't see any improvement in your condition in a week or so it might be time to try some of the other homemade acne treatments.
